Editorial Standards & Ethics
Accuracy, sourcing, and content labels
Human-reported articles are checked against named records and sources. News, Opinion, Sponsored material, Calendar listings, Scores, and Verified briefs carry distinct labels. A topic label does not replace the content-type label.
Automation and human responsibility
Verified briefs identify and link the original source, show when its record was checked, and contain no reporting beyond the attributed summary. They require a valid source URL and source publication time. Kurt, publisher and editor, is responsible for review before publication.
Original local reporting and follow-ups
The recurring reporting plan prioritizes Encinitas government and planning, schools and youth sports, public safety, coastal access and environment, local business, and North County institutions affecting Encinitas. Work may include meeting coverage, interviews, public-record reviews, and follow-ups on announced projects, votes, deadlines, and public promises. Automated summaries do not substitute for this reporting.
Corrections
Email editor@encinitaslife.com or use the contact page. Requests are reviewed against the story, source material, and new records; confirmed material errors are corrected promptly with a dated note.
Independence, advertising, and funding
Editorial decisions are independent of advertisers, sponsors, campaigns, and sources. Advertisements and paid articles carry visible Advertisement or Sponsored labels and remain separate from independent coverage. The publication does not currently itemize outside grant, donor, or investor funding.
Automation safeguards
Parser failures, missing required fields, conflicts, duplicate records, and source interruptions are quarantined. Failed refreshes preserve confirmed public records, and school schedule changes remain pending until editorial approval. Automation does not invent missing facts, times, scores, listings, or quotes.
