Wave FC Claims NWSL Shield in Second Season

San Diego Wave FC finished the regular season with the best record in the league, winning the NWSL Shield just two years after their founding.

SAN DIEGO — History has been made at Snapdragon Stadium.

In front of a roaring sellout crowd, San Diego Wave FC defeated Racing Louisville 2-0 to clinch the NWSL Shield, awarded to the team with the best regular-season record. It is a remarkable achievement for a club that didn't exist three years ago.

Jaedyn Shaw, the 18-year-old sensation, opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a clinical finish. Alex Morgan added an insurance goal early in the second half, allowing the party to start early in the stands.

Head Coach Casey Stoney reflected on the achievement, noting that building the club from scratch and standing as regular-season champions was a testament to everyone in the organization — from the front office to the players to the fans. The accomplishment, she said, belonged to all of San Diego.

By securing the Shield, the Wave have earned home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and a first-round bye. They will host a semi-final match on November 5th, looking to add the NWSL Championship trophy to their collection.
