CARLSBAD — La Costa Canyon's JV girls basketball team has opened the 2025-26 season on a dominant note, posting a perfect 3-0 record while outscoring opponents by a combined 74 points through three games.
The Mavericks opened their campaign with a hard-fought 47-44 victory over Mt. Carmel at home on November 18, a close game that tested the young squad's composure in crunch time. From there, the wins came more easily.
Building Momentum
On December 2, LCC traveled to face Westview and came away with a convincing 52-29 victory, holding the Wolverines to under 30 points in a defensive showcase. The following night, the Mavericks put an exclamation point on the early season with a 59-11 rout of Olympian, their most lopsided victory of the young campaign.
The numbers tell a compelling story: 158 points scored versus 84 allowed, an average margin of victory of nearly 25 points per game. While the competition level will increase as the Mavericks move deeper into their schedule, the early returns are encouraging for a program that consistently develops players for the varsity level.
Development Pipeline
JV basketball serves as a critical development pipeline at La Costa Canyon, where head JV coach Hannah Pulfer and assistant Camron Pulfer have focused on building fundamentals and competitive habits that translate to varsity success.
As league play approaches, the Mavericks will face stiffer competition from North County Conference rivals. But the confidence built during this 3-0 start should serve the young squad well as the games become more meaningful.
